Republican Mark Leyes Announces Candidacy for the 68th Assembly

Garden Grove City Councilman has already raised over $120,000 for the March 2004 race

GARDEN GROVE - Mark Leyes, R-Garden Grove, has officially announced his intentions to seek the 68th Assembly District seat presently held by termed out Assemblyman Ken Maddox.

Leyes, a lifelong resident of Orange County has served on the Garden Grove City Council for over 12 years. Leyes is also an elected member of the Orange County Republican Party Central Committee, an associate member of the California Republican Party, and a member of the Republican Leadership Forum.

In 2001, Leyes was honored by the Orange County Republican Party as “Local Elected Official of the Year.”

Leyes has been endorsed by many community leaders and elected officials, including Anaheim Mayor Curt Pringle, who previously held the 68th Assembly District seat. Leyes is also endorsed by Assemblymembers Bob Pacheco, Ray Haynes and Bonnie Garcia, former Assemblyman Jim Morrissey, State Senator Bill Morrow, and elected officials representing every city in the district.

Leyes has already raised over $120,000.00 for the race; $117,000.00 of which he still has as cash on hand. To date, Leyes remains the only formally declared candidate in the race to replace the termed out Maddox.
