Leyes Winning in AD68

Recent Poll Backs Up Conventional Wisdom That Leyes is Frontrunner!

(Garden Grove, CA) – A recent survey taken by well-respected and veteran pollster Arnold Steinberg in the 68th Assembly District shows Republican Mark Leyes with a solid lead over trial lawyer Van Tran. The survey, which was taken among likely Republican Primary voters in the 68th District, showed Leyes beating Tran by over 10% before any information was given about either candidate.

“Van Tran is in serious trouble. More important than the 10-point lead this early in the game is the fact that Tran’s record on important issues and his profession as a criminal lawyer and trial attorney moves voters against him in a major way,” said Leyes’ Sacramento-based consultant Chris Wysocki.

In addition to the recent polling showing Tran trailing Leyes by a large margin, it appears as if the supposed fundraising advantage Tran boasted about early on has disappeared. Recent analysis of reports filed with the Secretary of State show Tran to have approximately $137,900 of money that can be spent in the Primary. This is contrasted with Mark Leyes, who has just over $149,000 on hand.

“Van Tran has raised over $435,000. He has just under $138,000 left he can spend in the Primary. And he’s losing by 10% on a first ballot test, with the second ballot showing an even stronger Leyes lead. At least the Howard Dean campaign gave us some entertainment before it imploded,” said Wysocki.
